State Bank of India, country’s largest public sector lender, has brought in several new rules for its customers. The lender is now world’s 45thlargest lender after merger with five sister banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank.
SBI’s new norms relate to minimum balance requirement in savings accounts, amended service charges, new service tax rates, renewed locker fees, charges for availing new cheque books and many more, based on Zee News.
Most prominent among these changed rules are based on customers who hold savings accounts at metro, urban, semi-urban and rural branches. The financial institution has made mandatory maintenance of minimum balance during these accounts from April 1.
Listed here is a primer on which the changed rules entail SBI customers to do.
1) From April 1, all SBI savings banking account holders will probably be necessary to maintain stipulated minimum balance within their accounts. The bank has categorised its customers under metro, urban, semi-urban and rural brackets.
2) The absolute minimum balance requirement of Rs 5,000 continues to be fixed to have an account holder in a branch in the metro city. Similarly, members in urban, semi-urban and rural SBI bank branches have to maintain Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.
3) SBI has also formulated new rules for cash transactions particularly at its automated teller machine booths. Under new rules, an SBI debit card holder will be allowed five free transactions at its ATMs. Besides, you will have a fee of Rs 20 for any fourth transaction for debit card holders of other banks.
The financial institution begins charging Rs 50 after the first three cash deposits from the month. This limit is prescribed to save accounts.

In metropolitan areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru you will see a charge of Rs 100 plus service tax, in the event the balance goes below 75 % with the minimum average balance.

Cash withdrawal from ATMs will probably be charged following your first three transaction for other banks and first five transactions from SBI ATMs.
